The tree lighting event in Oak Bluffs burns brightly with music, laughter, the excitement of children adorned with bright red antlers, lots of hot chocolate and an abundance of holiday cheer. The actual lighting of the tree and the arrival of Santa aboard the giant red lights whirling fire truck is tantamount to the grand finale at the annual fireworks in Ocean Park (almost). It is magical and special.

Thanks to so many for making this possible again this year — the Oak Bluffs Highway Department, the Friends of Oak Bluffs and Mark Crossland for decorating our town, and to Paul Mahoney for the magnificent town tree. Thanks to the musicians extraordinaire, the Vineyard Brass Ensemble playing traditional carols and Brian Weiland and Company, who brought the upbeat popular holiday “rock.” And a very big thanks to Mike Santoro and helpers for providing and serving gallons of hot chocolate. Thanks also to the OBPTO for helping to let parents know about this community event, and most of all a giant thanks to the OBPD and the OBFD for bringing a very jolly St. Nick to our town center in such a dramatic and exciting fashion.

And finally, to all the folks who came to celebrate the holiday and special feeling of community, we wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
