For awhile on Monday night I thought we were going to need an ark, but we did okay. The wind blew hard and there was a swimming pool in front of the Stop & Shop that I am sure took a long time to drain. Other than that we fared the storm pretty well. Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons to out to Autumn Donnelly, who celebrated her day Jan. 23; Kylie Fauteux, Jan. 24; and to Davi Butkowsky and Olive Dockery, who celebrate their day today. Jan. 27.

Surprise! I finally got the list, and it only took four months.

Well it was a big week for many. There was the women’s march, which many people attended not just here on the Island, but many traveled to Boston. And of course the big game. I did yell at the TV a little but it was in good jest.

I have to say there were many people who did not understand the women’s march, and you know I won’t get into anything political here, but that is what is so great about this country, is that there is a freedom to speak and show your thoughts, and no one was hurt and everything was peaceful.

Being a fan of Facebook, I have two favorite people to follow for pictures of the Island: Bert Fischer and Becky Cournoyer. They both live up-Island but they capture so many different spots. You never know where Bert will be and what he will capture. Wildlife, people, and landscape, it is amazing. I would love to see his work at some of the craft fairs; I think he would do really well.

Becky does a lot of West Tisbury. She lives in her grandmother’s farmhouse that she and husband Mark Bettencourt and their sons are renovating.

She shows many pictures of the house as they go along or of table settings, their farm animals, chickens, geese, their new dog, and it seems to take you back to what you imagine the farm life was like for many years. She also adds a little narrative along with the pictures that makes you smile about her life.

In a few weeks Disney will be buzzing with a lot of Islanders. School vacation is coming fast and I have a few friends heading south and as they share their plans, more and more people are saying they will be there at the same time. That will make the Island real quiet.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
