The weekend weather was not unreasonable for this time of year. The big news was the Women’s March on Washington last Saturday and the vast number of people that attended. Estelle Thompson and Jen Wool went down to D.C. as did many others that have ties to this area. Tom Hodgson, Christine Gault, Binnie Ravitch, Leslie Gray and many others went up to Boston to march. Shannon Burke marched in Dripping Springs, Tex. Nearly 160 people gathered at Five Corners in support of others who marched not only in America but in cities around the world.

Traffic last Sunday was nil as people watched the Patriots defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers to earn a spot in the Super Bowl. Nadine Barrett was on hand and watched the game. Go Patriots!

History note: On Jan. 31, 1942 Congress moved ahead standard time in the United States by one hour in each time zone, imposing daylight saving time — and called it war time. The idea was suggested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a means to conserve fuel.

Well that is all of the social news for this week’s edition. If you have any news please call or e-mail me. A trivia item that could come in handy at your next social gathering: Our Market, in Oak Bluffs, received its first shipment of Krueger’s canned beer and ale 80 years ago Wednesday. Krueger was the first brewery to try this new method of marketing beer. Have a great week.
