The Newes from America Pub has reopened for business after a kitchen fire shuttered the downtown Edgartown restaurant.

Scout hotels spokesman Elizabeth Rothwell told the Gazette the pub reopened last Friday morning, roughly four weeks after a fire inside a kitchen wall drew an all-out response from firefighters. The fire was extinguished but the restaurant was closed for repairs.

The kitchen fire was the second fire in three days at the Newes, a popular year-round pub. Two days before, a kitchen fire a dryer fire was promptly extinguished by firefighters. Edgartown fire chief Peter Shemeth said the fires were unrelated.

The restaurant is located at the Kelley House hotel, a 274-year-old building in the heart of the downtown area. The Newes was closed for three months last summer for renovations following a pipe failure.
