As a longtime fan of the Farm Institute, it is with great concern and sadness that I learned about the dismissal of Jon Previant. The Farm Institute has always been a favorite place to visit with my two young grandchildren — taking hay rides, naming the animals, watching lambs being born, seeing three-day-old piglets, and following our favorite calf, Hercules, grow up to join the cows in the pasture. As an adult I have attended several workshops there around sustainability issues concerning our Island, not to mention getting fresh eggs, meat, farm vegetables and wool, and joining community festivities hosted at the farm. My family has always felt welcomed. We have greatly appreciated all that the terrific Farm Institute staff have done under the guidance of Jon Previant to keep this vital community place of learning surviving and thriving.
