A New York woman was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Monday following a moped accident in Edgartown, according to police.

Ashley Markowski, 29, of Halfmoon, N.Y., appeared to have a broken ankle along with scrapes to her shin after she apparently lost control of a rented moped at Pease’s Point Way South and Cooke street, according to a police report.

Mrs. Markowski’s husband, Chris, told police that after turning on to Pease’s Point Way from Cooke street, he looked behind him and realized Mrs. Markowski had lost control of her moped.

Police said the patient and her husband were transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. The mopeds had been rented from Island Hoppers in Oak Bluffs, police said, and the company was called to come pick up the vehicles.
