It’s a family affair at the Yard in Chilmark next week. Dancer Ruth Childs will perform three solos originally created by her aunt Lucinda Childs, a modern dance icon — Pastime (1963), Carnation (1964) and Museum Piece (1965).

The word icon is, of course, used too frequently but in this case the ballet slipper fits. Lucinda Childs began her career as a choreographer in 1963 at the Judson Dance Theater in New York. Since forming her dance company in 1973, she has created over 50 works, both solo and ensemble. Perhaps best known is Einstein on the Beach which she created in collaboration with Philip Glass and Robert Wilson.

Ruth Childs will perform on June 29 at 8 p.m. and July 1 at 6:30 p.m.
