Friday night’s first quarter moon appears close to the bright planet Jupiter. The two are a stunning sight high in the southern sky. They reside together tonight in the zodiacal constellation Virgo and set around midnight in the west.
Jupiter is now the easiest planet to spot in our sky as it is the brightest and highest. Saturn is just east of Jupiter and resides between the zodiacal constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius. Saturn is moving through the southern-most zodiacal constellations and it takes a little more effort to find.
On the Fourth of July, the gibbous moon will be in Libra, farther from Jupiter but closer to Saturn. The moon and Saturn will be together on Wednesday night.
Venus rises early in the morning. You’ve got to be up around 4 a.m. in the morning to see and look to the east, not far from where the sun will rise later. Mars and Mercury are too close in proximity to the sun to be seen.
