I believe it is a shame that many people that visit this beautiful Island do not care enough to clean up after themselves.

Memorial Wharf, restored beautifully and only open a couple of days, was left in deplorable condition after the Fourth of July fireworks. I walked up to the top at 7:30 a.m. on July 5. I was appalled at the condition the top deck was left in. Scattered all over the top level were empty bags, bottles, cans, dirty socks and many cigarette butts that were put out on the new redwood decking. There was even vomit on the deck. It was a rush to get Memorial Wharf finished in time for the Fourth and then to have it trashed like that is a shame.

Debris was also left along the parade route. Empty candy wrappers just thrown on the ground, empty bottles, cups etc. Do people expect others to clean up after them or do they just not care if it ever gets cleaned up? All the flags in my front yard were stolen sometime during the night and someone threw an empty beer bottle over my fence. If you want to visit the Island, please show some respect for the people, things and places.
