Marisa Elizabeth Higham and Garrett Thomas Burt, both of Oak Bluffs, were married Sept. 16 in an afternoon wedding in Kingston. On the eve of the wedding, the bridegroom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Plymouth Country Club.
The bride is an architectural designer with Sullivan + Associates Architects in Oak Bluffs. The bridegroom recently joined the sales team at the Vineyard Gazette Media Group, following several years at The Green Room in Vineyard Haven. The bride is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the bridegroom graduated from UMass Dartmouth. Having spent most of their lives living just minutes from each other, the couple met the way one would expect: on an iPhone App. They were engaged in the first moments of Christmas Day 2016.
Marisa is the elder daughter of Cynthia Silva-Higham and William Higham of Oak Bluffs. Garrett is the youngest child of Diane Burt and Denis Burt, seasonal residents of Oak Bluffs who also live in Plymouth.
The couple was married by the bridegroom’s father, who registered as a one-day solemnizer with the commonwealth. The ceremony and reception were hosted by the bridegroom’s sister and brother in law, Darcy and Jeff Sabel, at their home in Kingston.
Olivia Higham, the bride’s sister, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Darcy Sabel, Genevieve Flanders, Megan Nolan, Jennifer Goeckel, Janelle Coelho and Casey Jayne Dobel. Noah Burt, the bridegroom’s older brother, served as best man. Groomspeople included Jeff Sabel, Brendan Cooney, Lance Fullin, Devon Williams, Belinda Ritchie and Richard Medeiros.
The wedding was truly beautiful. The entire day was filled with love and happiness. The couple thanks their family and friends for all their help and love throughout the entire planning process. The day would not have been possible without the support they received.
They must also thank Sara McIntosh of Candlewood Events for her unwavering assistance and expertise in pulling together all the details.
Following a honeymoon in Maine, the couple will reside in Oak Bluffs.
