The Island Grown Initiative has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from CARE for the Cape and Islands to develop food waste stations for the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair.

The award was given at the CARE fundraiser event, held at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Nov. 2. Sophie Abrams, who has helped lead a food waste recovery program on the Vineyard, accepted the award for IGI.

The food waste stations are expected to divert as much as a ton of food waste from the four-day fair, which is attended by some 20,000 people every August.
