Sunny days ahead after a weekend of sub-zero temperatures, steady winds with gusts in the 50s and 60s, and one can only hope the end of winter storms for this year. The temperatures have been in the 30s and 40s over the past few days and the sun has been bright. Enjoy the warmth.

One final note regarding the Aquinnah Christmas party, a huge thank you to Captain Buddy Vanderhoop for his role in making the evening such a success. Who would have ever guessed that he would be the most wonderful Santa in town and absolutely fit the job description. Forget his signature turquoise apparel as he looks better in red. Thank you Captain Bud.

Alfred F. Alley 3rd was in town over the holidays, staying with his father Forrest Alley and alternating nights at the home of his mother Emily Packish Frank in Tisbury.

Legend Bellecourt and his brother Bangii arrived three weeks ago to reside with their grandmother Carole Ann Vandal at her Aquinnah home. They had been residing in Hawaii with their aunt Wenonah Bellecourt. After spending a month in Aquinnah during this past summer, they were already familiar with their surroundings. Actually, Legend resided here for a year or two as an infant and Bangii was born here. They are enjoying the West Tisbury School and making many new friends. Having been raised in Minnesota, they are already accustomed to the cold and snow.

John Macey, his wife Amy and their son Zach spent the New Year weekend at their Aquinnah home while her parents Howard and Sandy Klebanoff entertained family and friends on New Year’s eve at their Aquinnah home. A grand time was had by all.

Theresa Kistner Manning spent the weekend at Foxwood’s in Ledyard, Conn. with her brother Michael Kistner and his wife Margaret.

Jerry Wiener and Carolyn Feltz have returned after spending the holidays in New Jersey with her siblings John and Agnes, and a visit with their son Jesse Wiener and his wife Maggie of Manhattan. Carolyn has extended her time for retiring as town clerk until the end of January.

On Wednesday afternoons at the Howes House in West Tisbury, Chinese Mah Jong is played at 1 p.m. On Thursday afternoons American Mah Jong is played at 1 p.m. Join in the fun at the Up-Island Council on Aging for beginners or those who just love to play.

Happy birthday wishes to Blanche Jackson on Jan. 8; BM3 Joel Behr partied on Jan. 9; Jan. 13 is a day of celebration for Brian Athearn, Marilyn Manning and Edie Baker; twins Jocelyn and Dillon Woods will be 12 years old on Jan. 13 and their mother Megan will party on Jan. 14. Bangii Bellecourt, Faith Vanderhoop and Carol Mayrand share the day on Jan. 15. Happy birthday wishes this week to Thomas Murphy, Esq. as he celebrates his special day on Jan. 16. Jesse Wiener will party on Jan. 18; Ciara Seccombe, Roy Hope, Ruth Major, Anthony Vanderhoop, and Carrie Anne Vanderhoop Bellis all celebrate the day on Jan. 19.
