Nice to have sunshine for the past few days after what seemed like a week of fog and rain. This weekend will be interesting as we wait to see if March comes in like a lion or a lamb. At mid-week, a northeaster is predicted for the weekend. School vacation is almost over.
Congratulations to my fellow Vineyard Gazette friends for winning 34 NENPA awards over the weekend at ceremonies in Boston.
The latest debate in the housing crunch: there are 25 people assigned to U.S. Coast Guard Station Menemsha. There are nine houses owned by the Coast Guard on the Vineyard and three leased houses, and only four rooms in the barracks for housing a total of 16 people. The remainder must be able to find room or apartment rentals, or leases of homes. The owned houses and the leased houses are all occupied by married people. The Vineyard has been designated as a critical housing area, meaning a higher housing allowance. The housing office on the Cape is doing their best to ensure married families obtain housing. Remember how hard Vineyarders fought to keep Station Menemsha open. Now it is in our best interest to assist the crew with housing. If you have a guest house, an apartment or a rental house available, please email me. Thank you.
