Aquinnah and the rest of the Vineyard experienced the third nor’easter in 11 days. On Tuesday, the electricity went out at about 9 a.m. and remained out throughout the day. Aquinnah police, firemen, highway department, as well as Eversource for electricity and Verizon for telephones were busy all day. There were wires and trees down all around. Lighthouse Road is on the north side of town and took the brunt of the storm with wires down from one end to the other. As of Tuesday night, it was reported that the electricity may not be returned until Thursday. The town hall was opened as a shelter for those in need.
The Aquinnah Public Library staff have enjoyed a few days off respite during the recent storms. For now, they are back up and running. On Saturday, March 17 story time begins at 10 a.m. and kids craft is making shamrocks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Tuesday March 20, the after-school club meets at 4 p.m.

The meal consists of a salad, a serving of lasagna, garlic bread, beverage, and something for dessert. It is a great opportunity to get out of the house and have a great meal, make some new friends. Condolences to the family and friends of Fred Croft who passed away in Maine two weeks ago. Fred formerly resided at the Outermost Inn, being a long time friend of the Taylor family. He was originally from Durham, N.C. but enjoyed life on the Vineyard as a Captain of the Menemsha Bike Ferry and other vessels, a carpenter, an oyster shucker, and many other positions. He moved to Maine about five years ago but would return when possible, especially to attend the block party in May to celebrate Alexandra Taylor’s birthday.
