Spring cleaning spreads to the great outdoors this weekend with the Vineyard Conservation Society’s 26th annual Earth Day beach clean-up.

The action takes place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 21. Volunteers of all ages are invited to head to a favorite beach where volunteers will be on hand with everything needed to clean up the area. A list of supervised beaches is available at vineyardconservation.org.

WMVY radio will be broadcasting live from Eastville Beach, and a host of Island organizations are volunteering to clean up beaches around the Island. And this year the clean-up goes from land to water, as Chilmark shellfish constable Isaiah Scheffer takes adventurous volunteers out on a boat to clean-up around Menemsha Pond. Those interest should meet Mr. Scheffer at 10 a.m. at the Menemsha Texaco station.

An after-party complete with lunch and free raffles will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at the Sailing Camp in Oak Bluffs.

Earth Day officially takes place Sunday, April 22, a perfect day to enjoy clean beaches and ponds.
