Still waiting for a few more days of spring-like weather in Aquinnah. The temperature has been in the 30s and 40s but did reach 58 over the weekend. Lawns are getting almost as green as Forrest Alley’s. Remo Fullin had his large street sweeper along Lighthouse Road to rearrange the sand left by all the winter storms.

The library is offering a craft during April school vacation. Saturday is making trolls. Also the acrylic landscape painting workshop will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. Call the library at 508-645-2314 to sign up, or come into the library to leave your name at the desk.

The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard is sponsoring an Aquinnah voter forum prior to the local election. The public is invited to attend and listen to the candidates. There are contested races for selectman this year and there should be some lively discussions. The forum will be held at the Aquinnah Old Town Hall on Saturday, May 5 at 3 p.m.

Alison Mead’s opening reception of her latest photography was held on Friday evening at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society on Beach Road in Tisbury. It was a lovely evening and Alison was supported by many members of the Gazette staff. Her show will be on display through April 30.

Jenna Petersiel has arrived for the season, getting their summer abode in order for her mother Louise Petersiel. Jenna will be opening the Chilmark Tavern in just a matter of weeks.

Sincere condolences to Jean Entine and her family on the death of her mother Sylvia Goldsmith Marks on April 3. Mrs. Marks was 100 years old and died peacefully at her home in Memphis, Tenn.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Gregory Mayhew who died on April 11 after a long illness. I am grateful that I was able to see Greg just three weeks ago. He was a longtime family friend and schoolmate. Our families were multi-generational friends over many decades. Services are tomorrow at the Trinity Methodist Church in Oak Bluffs.

Happy birthday this week to Clovis Hugo Smith who will be seven on April 22. Tim Laursen parties on the same day along with Stevie Souter Kernick. Denys Wortman will observe a major milestone as he and Thomas Rabbitt share the day on April 23. Martha Cottle will party on April 25. Phillip Parent will observe his special day on April 26, as will Michael Goldsmith. Jean Lince will observe her special day on April 27, sharing the day with Rodney Bunker and Shirley Mayhew.
