It’s a crowded race for selectman this year in Aquinnah, with three candidates running for the town’s top elected office.

Five-term incumbent Jim Newman is seeking a sixth term on the board, and will face a challenge from Elise LeBovit and Jay Theise.

Ms. LeBovit is a member of the Aquinnah board of assessors and the Gay Head Lighthouse advisory board. She also owns the Duck Inn, a bed and breakfast in Aquinnah.

Mr. Theise is an attorney at Jay F. Theise and Associates in Chilmark.

Town clerk Gabriella Camilleri confirmed that all three candidates have filed papers to run.

There are no other contests on the ballot, but voters can expect to see on a Proposition 2 1/2 override question and also a question on whether to change the town board of assessors from elected to appointed positions, town administrator Jeffrey Madison said.

The annual town meeting is Tuesday, May 8 and begins at 7 p.m. in the old town hall.

The annual town election will be held the following day, May 9. Polls will be open from noon to 7 p.m. in the new town hall.
