West Tisbury firefighters knocked down a smoky house fire in the Tiah’s Cove section of town Tuesday evening.

The fire was at a single family home at 50 Bradley Martin Road. According to assessors’ records, the home is owned by Karen Pratt.

Fire chief Manuel Estrella 3rd said the call came shortly after 7:30 p.m. from one of the occupants of the home.

“It looked like it came from an electrical wire,” Chief Estrella said. “It was a post and beam house. The woman heard arcing in the wall and then all of a sudden saw smoke. Then she paged for us. It went up the side of the house.”

The chief said fire crews worked to get access to the fire, which was inside the walls.

“It’s a lot of damage because we had to do a lot of cutting, along the outside of the house and on the roof,” Chief Estrella said. “There were big timbers up there and it was between the timber and the outside wall. They should be able to save the house.”

Firefighters from Chilmark, Aquinnah and Oak Bluffs also responded to provide backup and mutual aid.
