The Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven is set to become the newest site on the African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard.

A dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the church.

The dedication will honor Rev. Absalom Jones, the first African American priest in the Episcopal Church, Right Rev. John Melville Burgess, first African American bishop in the Episcopal Church, and liturgical artist Allan Rohan Crite, who created a mural at the church.

The church will become the 28th stop on the heritage trail, which honors contributions made by people of African descent to the history of Martha’s Vineyard.
