West Tisbury police officer Matt Gebo was officially promoted to sergeant at a promotional ceremony last week at the police department.

Sergeant Gebo was been a full-time officer in West Tisbury since 2010 and a detective since 2014. He was a special officer for the Chilmark police from 2005 to 2010 and also worked for the Tisbury police department in 2010. He earned his Master of Science degree in criminal justice from Bridgewater State University.

Sergeant Gebo coaches baseball at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and has coached baseball, softball and basketball at the West Tisbury school since 2009. He has also served as the employee representative for the West Tisbury personnel board since 2012.

The board of selectmen voted in late April to promote him to sergeant. “He’s a great example to the community as well as to the leadership we’re trying to keep in place,” police chief Matt Mincone told selectmen.
