About 40 people slept overnight on cots at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport this weekend after a pair of late flights were canceled. The makeshift shelter was coordinated by several Island officials.
Longtime West Tisbury police officer Bradley Cortez has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, following the town select board’s approval of his appointment last week.
Island police responded to a number of drunk driving incidents over the weekend. In Oak Bluffs there were two separate arrests for operating under the influence.
West Tisbury police announced Monday morning that Daniel Gouldrup, a longtime officer with the town, had died at home of apparent natural causes. Officer Gouldrop was 59, police said.
The town police department is completing the last steps in the process of gaining accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. It is first department on the Island to apply.
