Each year, since 1993, the few, the strong, the tough of feet have gathered to walk another large stretch of the Island. Known as the Cross-Island Hike, the annual event celebrates National Trails Day with a very long hike along a different route of the network of trails available to Vineyard hikers every day of the year.

This year’s hike, takes place on Saturday, June 2, beginning at 8:15 a.m. The walk starts at Menemsha Beach in Chilmark and ends at Blackwater Pond Reservation in West Tisbury. The journey adds up to 17.2 miles.

Wear your sun screen, watch out for ticks, say hello to the snapping turtles, and enjoy nature at its finest.
