A severed ramp cable caused a 45-minute delay for passengers and vehicles on the ferry Governor in Woods Hole early Tuesday morning.

Steamship Authority general manager Robert Davis said a tractor trailer that was hauling trash clipped the transfer bridge counterweights in slip number two while exiting the ferry just after 7 a.m., snapping the ramp cable. He said vehicles and passengers were still able to get on and off, but the ferry couldn’t operate until the cable was repaired.

“We had to get our maintenance department down there to fix it temporarily with some rigging and cabling,” Mr. Davis said.

The Governor’s departure to the Vineyard was delayed from 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. New cabling was installed and the slip became fully operational by 10:30 a.m., according to an update on the SSA website.
