Scott Smith, executive director at Vineyard Youth Tennis for the past 12 years, will leave in mid-August, the center recently announced.

Mr. Smith and his wife will relocate to Ruston, La., where he has been named tennis director at the Squire Creek Country Club.

Mr. Smith was instrumental in strengthening the youth tennis program as a feeder for the high school tennis teams which have since won six state championships. He also was founder of the Martha’s Vineyard Community Tennis Association which has offered scholarships to high school seniors, helped with high school uniforms and assists each year with cleanup at the high school courts.

He said he would miss the Vineyard and thanked longtime tennis program leaders and instructors Michael Halisky, Barbara Leonard and Nina Bramhall for their support.
