State police, Tisbury police and the Martha’s Vineyard tactical response team were called to a Daggett avenue home in Vineyard Haven Wednesday morning following reports of a person wielding a knife and making threats.

A 20-year-old male who has not been identified was later transported to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said. The man was and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to Tisbury police Lieut. Eerik Meisner.

Lieutenant Meisner said the police are not releasing the name of the man due to the mental health nature of the case.

He said no one was injured in the incident. A press release issued later by the state police said at the time of the incident an elderly relative was in the house who was safely removed with the help of police. Tisbury fire an EMS were also on the scene.

“All the officers showed great restraint and stayed calm throughout the whole situation which ultimately ended in a positive outcome,” Lieutenant Meisner said.
