This Sunday, July 29, The Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley from Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va. will lead Union Chapel in worship. The son of the late Rev. Dr. Alvin and Dr. Helene Wesley, he represents the fifth generation of Baptist preachers in his family.

Under Dr. Wesley’s extraordinary leadership, Alfred Street Baptist Church has grown from about 2,500 to more than 7,000 members, serving the community through 83 ministries with an emphasis on children’s ministries and missions. His preaching became a favorite of President Barack and Michelle Obama, whose family worshipped at Alfred Street Baptist Church on several Easter Sundays.

Currently, he is part of the inaugural cohort of the PhD in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric at Christian Theological Seminary.Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs welcomes all people to hear Dr. Wesley’s message this Sunday. The organ prelude begins at 9:40 a.m.; worship begins at 10 a.m.
