We finally have the relief from the heat. We also got the rain that was much needed but all in all, it is a relief even if it is only for a few days.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Emily Bordim who celebrated her day August 18, Victor Valentim, August 19, Harley Snowden, August 22 and to Anna Rodrigues who celebrates her day Friday, August 24.

It sort of feels like the week after Christmas around the Island. The lanterns are all down and put away for another year. The barge with the fireworks is gone and the park is empty of chairs and blankets. The fairground is empty and little trace remains of all the rides, animals and people that were there just a few days ago. It was a fun, busy week but it went by too fast and I think there are some people who want one more tempura, a burger or strawberry shortcake. We will all wait until next year.

On the plus side, we were able to see people we had not seen all summer or even since last year. The fair is always a great place to catch up with people. However you spent your week, I hope it was a happy one.

Here are a few reasons I like to follow Facebook. I have traveled around the world this morning and never left my living room and I got to see friends living their lives. Bill MacKenty, his wife Dagmara and daughter Janna started their first day of school in Warsaw. I saw pictures of Captain Eli Bonnell and his new wife Julianne’s wedding in Seattle and his family having a great day. I saw Randy Dull on his way to Utah to attend school, Kelley Henry Skidmore and her family working on her farm in Georgia, Carol Elliot Ellis and her husband, Lenny, taking care of their home in Maine and Levi Mundt sitting on the beach with his Uncle Kraig here on the Island.

Call it being nosey. I call it keeping up with friends and relatives in places you have never been or want to go to. As Penney Townes said in one picture, “this is on my bucket list.” I have seen many places I would love to visit and people I would love to see in person but for now, I have to enjoy it from my living room.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
