Rob Douglas from Vineyard Haven, representing Team Lynch Associates and The Black Dog Tavern Company, won his third world speed sailing title at the 2018 International Kiteboarding Association Speed World Championships in Masirah, Oman last week.
Rob placed first in all five races and set the best average speed of the event at 50.25 knots or 57.78mph over 250 meters and a maximum speed of 60 mph. Rob defeated the current world record holder, Alex Caizergues from France, and remains undefeated in all international kitesurfing speed sailing regattas since October 2011.
Rob will be competing at the North American Speed Sailing Invitational on Martha’s Vineyard from Oct. 21 through Nov. 4.
