Next week, when back at work, you will be asked by co-workers whether you were at Best Fest. Don’t be the one who shrugs and says, no I stayed in and binge-watched a Michael J. Fox television marathon.

Save that for January.

This Saturday, Sept. 8 is the ninth annual Best Fest, which is basically a Vineyard end of summer answer to Mardi Gras. There will be dancing in the streets, or rather street: Circuit avenue.

The party starts at 4 p.m. in Ocean Park, with live music at the bandstand until 8 p.m. from The Outskirts, The Pinkletinks, Siren Mayhew and Isaac Taylor, and others.

Then the party starts moving, led by a 45-piece marching band. The Extraordinary Rendition Band (ERB) hails from Providence R.I., but calls the Vineyard its home during Best Fest. Everyone is invited to join in on the merry mayhem, marching from Ocean Park down Circuit avenue to the Loft where the music will continue as long as the bar stays open.

And best of all, the event is a fundraiser to benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Radio, WVVY, 96.7 LPFM.

Happy days are here again.
