The winds of change are blowing and they say it’s time to fly a kite, toss a frisbee, race a model sailboat or just sit back and watch the clouds float across the sky on a perfect September day.

The Martha’s Vineyard Wind Festival is here and it is calling your name to Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, Sept. 8. The festival has a long history going back to 1967 and running for 20 years, when it went on hiatus only to be reborn in 2011.

The fun is from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and embraces all things windy and wonderful. The day gets started with kite-making classes for ages 12 and under, immediately followed by kite flying competitions; first for the kids and then for adults.

There are prizes for largest kite, smallest kite, creative kite.

Music will fill the air too, and it’s all free.
