It’s worth the journey to Killburn Mill in New Bedford to view the quarter-mile long panorama of whaling exploits from the mid-19th century. It’s amazing. It’s impressive. It’s dramatic.

Find Robinson Crusoe. Look for the Charles W. Morgan. Journey past the Azores and Cape Verde islands. See many a whale tail. View a volcano, a storm and natives dwelling on their Pacific islands.

This 1849 grand mural of the New Bedford Whaling Museum is on display at no charge.

Before the exhibit closes on Oct. 8, I’m returning to the Whaling City to absorb a second viewing of this amazing work of art, history, geography, culture and 19th century lore.
