It is raining and it is the perfect rain. It’s just a little heavier than a mist and it’s perfect to soak into the ground and give the leaves and what is left of the flowers some hydration. We need this. I drove by Sweetened Water Pond and it is a mere puddle.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to all those Edgartown School kids who celebrated. One more week and I should be there. (We will see.)

It is hurricane season and right now we are watching Florence as she heads for the Carolinas. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them as they deal with the winds and rains.

Fall is coming. We broke out the sweaters and long pants for a few days. However, the flip-flops did not come off. It is always a challenge to see how long we can wear them.

But the best is that the mums are in along with the ornamental peppers and cabbages and the pansies are back. The pumpkins will be here and the fall bulbs will be here soon too. I hate to say it but you know what comes next. Ho ho ho.

The fishing derby is now in full swing. Now, as some of my off-Island friends say, you cannot get anyone to do anything in your house until the middle of October. Breakfasts are early, dinners are late; it always depends on the tide and the moon. But whatever it is, those who love to fish they will be in constant movement following the tides. So here is good luck to those of you in the derby and to the families who will see you in a month.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
