The history of the Vineyard Trust, founded in 1975 to preserve some of the Island’s most iconic buildings, comes to life this week on the Time Machine, the Gazette’s online display of Vineyard history.

The multimedia slideshow, including photos and news stories about the Vineyard Trust from the Gazette’s archives, is the latest timeline to be added to the Time Machine.

Launched in 2016, the Time Machine (located here), is part of a multi-year effort to make available online the rich history of the Island as recorded through the years by the Gazette.

The Time Machine includes a master timeline with major events from Martha’s Vineyard’s past, along with topical timelines on popular topics such as storms, ferries and presidential visits.

Sponsored timelines, like the one of the Vineyard Trust, are underwritten by organizations and businesses with long histories on Martha’s Vineyard. Other sponsored timelines chronicle the history of the Camp Ground, Cronig’s markets, the Harbor View Hotel and the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.

The Time Machine also houses historic film clips of the Vineyard, gathered as part of the Gazette’s Historic Movies of Martha’s Vineyard Project. That project is aimed at preserving old film footage of the Island by converting it to digital format.
