Winter finally arrived in late February to bring a crust of snow and a chill in the air. But have no fear of shivering because the Yard is bringing the heat on Friday to the Chilmark Community Center with Red Baraat.

Never heard of Red Baraat? You will, whether at the community center or even nearby as the music will carry. And carry some more.

The group is from Brooklyn. They were conceived by dhol player Sunny Jain. What, you don’t know what a dhol is? Even more reason to get yourself to the show. FYI, a dhol is a double headed drum that rocks most of South Asia. And Sunny Jain is the Jimi Hendrix of the dhol.

Red Baraat merges hip-hop, jazz and punk with North Indian bhangra. It has been said of the group that it manifests joy and unity in all people. It will also cure your rheumatism, your flu symptoms and your common cold, your ennui and schadenfreude, your two left feet and your tin ear. You will be reborn and renewed.

The band has toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, Abu Dhabi and Kazakhstan and now they are here, in Chilmark, in late February and you have the winter Yard to thank for it.

Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15, or $5 for children under 5.
