The boys tennis team beat Old Rochester Tuesday 4-1 in the division 2 south sectional semifinals to advance to the south sectional finals.

Last year, Old Rochester eliminated MVRHS in a 3-2 win in the quarterfinals. As the match got underway at the Ned Fennessy Tennis Courts former head coach Ned Fennessy looked on.

“It’ll be a battle,” he said. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing first singles or second doubles. The team needs three wins.”

Mr. Fennessy’s teams were state champions in 2011 and 2012.

As the boys team rolled to a quick victory today it looked like they had that same goal in sight.

Eric Reubens was first off the court, winning at third singles 6-1, 6-2. Max Potter soon followed at second singles winning 6-0, 6-1. The first doubles team of Owen Favreau and Spencer Pogue secured the win by defeating their opponents 6-1, 6-3.

Chris Ferry lost at first singles 6-1 , 4-6, 3-10 (tiebreak), and the second doubles team of Ben Belisle and David Krauthamer lost 1-6,0-6.

The team plays in the south sectional final against Dover Sherborn on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Old Rochester.

Girls lacrosse ended their season losing 19-10 to Hanover High School.
