In our land of many origins
“Give me your tired,
your poor, your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free.”
May not be so for all to see
Where immigrant children look like me
This truth is clearly evident
Where equality for all is far from imminent
In our land of many origins
Where walls are erected so the “huddled masses” are rejected
Where children seeking freedom among the most free
Face indignity and adversity in their diversity
Where our celebration of Independence Day
Signals a contradiction and hypocrisy for all to see.
In our land of many origins
