The good news: the Perseid Meteor Shower, one of the most popular meteor showers of the year, will peak on Monday night. The bad news: the gibbous moon is only two days from full and it will likely interfere with viewing.
The brilliance of the moon will upstage any of the shooting stars that could cross the sky overhead. The shower still happens as it does every year.
But a brilliant glowing moon will make seeing it difficult see any of the fairly faint meteors.
There is still a slight chance you might see the brightest of meteors shooting across the sky in the nights ahead, although you are more likely to see fireflies dancing in the dark. But you never know.
The full moon, the Sailor’s Moon, is next Thursday. It will be one of the smallest full moons we’ve seen in awhile. The moon is in apogee, farthest from the earth, next Saturday.
