Aquinnah was relatively unscathed from Dorian with merely a significant rainfall and only a few gusts of wind. Now it’s back to our warm and serene September days that we enjoy so much, especially with less traffic.

There will be another Aquinnah Artisans Fair on Saturday, Sept. 14 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall.

Vineyard Climate Strike and Earth First will take place on Sept. 20 at Aquinnah Circle. The 7:30 a.m. ceremony will occur as a blue marble flag is hoisted to say that we are citizens of the Earth first and foremost and as a reminder that we need to be taking better care of it. Coffee and baked goods will be available. At 11 a.m., anyone who wishes to should gather at Red Beach at the head of Menemsha Pond for a Flotilla to paddle, row or putter to the Menemsha Dock where there will be another action. Dress code for the day is either blue or green.

The Rev. Dr. Michael Dawson and Marie Denkmann Dawson, formerly of Portal Hill, Blacksmith Valley, Chilmark, arrived on Cleveland Road in West Chop for a two-week stay. Michael has been a summer visitor to the Vineyard since 1952.

Noah Manning and Rocco Imbrogno, two 13-year-old Falmouth Academy students and friends since kindergarten at West Tisbury School, were recently enjoying a game of golf at Farm Neck Golf Club. As they were ending their game on the ninth hole, they encountered President Obama ending his game on the 18th hole. Needless to say, they were pleasantly surprised and thrilled to catch a glimpse of the former President who waved and greeted them with, “Hey Guys.”

Congratulations and all the best to Whitney Desmond Swolinzky and her husband Walker who were married on Sept. 6 at Flat Point Farm. Despite the rain, they had an enjoyable evening with 200 of their family members and friends.

Tobias Vanderhoop and his brother Thomas Fantasia returned to their home in Washington state after a visit home with their parents Edward Fantasia and Fawn Vanderhoop Fantasia and their siblings Eddie and Elsie Fantasia Scott. While here, they attended the annual pow wow while participating in the dance and drum.

Across the channel at United States Coast Guard Station Menemsha, MK3 Michael Ward arrived on August 23 after spending the past two and a half years stationed in Baltimore, Md. He is originally from Long Beach Island, NJ. Michael and his wife Jordan are newlyweds, having been married on July 17.

SA Patrick Shanahan arrived on August 15, fresh out of boot camp at Cape May, N.J. Patrick is originally from Palm Coast, Fla.
