Pumpkin Moon

The moon takes over the night sky in the coming week. The full moon, the Pumpkin Moon, appears in the zodiacal constellation Pisces on Sunday night. It is another small full moon. The moon passed apogee on Thursday and is farthest from us this month.

Have you seen the brightest planet in the night sky, Venus? It is a little bit of a challenge to see it now as it hangs low in the southwestern sky just after sunset and sets not much later afterwards. The window of opportunity to see this planet is short.

Know that it is going to get easier to see Venus in the weeks ahead as it gets both closer and higher in the western sky. By Thanksgiving, Venus will be so easy to find high in the west after sunset.
