Our new barn went up this week. It was mesmerizing to watch the eight workers of Riehl’s Construction of New Holland, Pa., perform.

The barn raising is a direct result of the generosity of many people. To all the donors, the close friends, family, community members and people who just wanted to contribute — thank you very much.

To all who offered to volunteer to help us put the barn up — thank you for the offers. Organizing the old-fashioned community barn raising proved to be too daunting.

The original design of this barn is thanks to Peter Rodegast. A friend and neighbor, Peter volunteered to help us on March 19, the day the fire that destroyed the old barn. Peter’s thoughtful and encouraging help are greatly appreciated.

Kevin Cusack of Autumn Construction volunteered and has been our general contractor to help get the job done. Kevin coordinated with Joe Turner of LB Form Co. to have the foundation ready for Riehl’s Construction.

It was very fitting for the barn to go up in October 2019, 80 years to the month that Dad’s original barn was put to use. We have a bottle of wine that Dad made many years ago, and that survived the fire, to christen the new barn.

Please, anyone and everyone, whether next week, next month or next year — stop by and see what a special thing this incredible community has been a huge part of to help Flat Point Farm continue into the future.
