Jupiter and Venus

The two brightest planets in the solar system appear in the evening western sky. Venus is the brighter of the two. Both are in the zodiacal constellation Scorpius and are low in the southwestern sky after sunset. Keep an eye on them in the weeks ahead.

Tonight the thin crescent moon also appears in the evening sky. Look carefully below the moon and you will see the planet Saturn nearby. The two are in the zodiacal constellation Sagittarius. The two set in the west well after Venus and Jupiter have dropped below the horizon.

Daylight Saving time ends on Sunday, so set your clocks back one hour. For those who have an old windup clock, it is far safer to set your 12-hour clock ahead eleven hours to avoid any mechanical problems. Some electric clocks are best handled that way too. Clocks are unhappy when the gears are turned backwards.
