Crescent Moon

A thin crescent moon appears fairly low in the southwestern sky tonight. The moon is in the zodiacal constellation Capricornus, and moving towards the constellation Aquarius. The moon shares the evening sky with three planets, farther to the west.

The western sky is well lit by the moon and planets. The brightest of the three planets Venus is in between the planets Saturn and Jupiter. Not long after the sun sets, Jupiter follows closely behind the sun. All three planets are either in or close to the zodiacal constellation Sagittarius.

In the nights ahead, Venus will appear to pass close to the planet Saturn. Saturn is a bright planet but it is no match for the brighter Venus. The conjunction of the two planets takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and it will be a beautiful sight in the evening sky. You can watch the noticeable changes every night ahead.

Venus is climbing in our night sky while Saturn appears to be sinking.
