The bright planet Venus is now high in the southwestern sky after sunset and can be spotted by just about anyone with some kind of view of the night sky. Being so distinct and bright, we’ve seen the planet amid the trees.
On Sunday night a thin crescent moon appears close to the horizon and underneath Venus. The two are in the zodiacal constellation Capricornus.
For those with a clear unobstructed view of the southwestern sky there is a slight chance you’ll see the planet Mercury underneath and to the right of the crescent moon. Mercury is one of the toughest visible planets to spot, as it is always near the glow of either the setting or the rising sun. The good news is that the crescent moon will help you find it. Mercury is below and to the right of the moon.
On Monday night, the crescent moon appears higher and closer to Venus. The two are nearly side by side on Wednesday night.
