The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) will quietly observe the 33rd anniversary of federal acknowledgement on April 10. The annual spring social scheduled for April 26 has been canceled. The tribal food program is temporarily closed.

Kristina Kestenbaum Leslie is happy to report that her grandson Darrius Lewis has recently secured a position with Aramark in San Diego following his graduation from Temple University in 2019. Darrius has been the Aquinnah parking lot attendant for the past five summers. He and his brother Philip summered with their grandparents Kristina and the late Ted Leslie over the past two decades.
Charlie Staples, grandson of Kristina Kestenbaum Leslie, is 13 years old and resides in Los Angeles and has been offered an opportunity to do voice overs for animation. He is hoping to start his career at an early age.
Bingo has been in play in Aquinnah — the kind that does not involve any exchange of currency. While socially distancing these days, three families in Aquinnah, one in Chilmark, one in West Tisbury, one in Edgartown, and one in Falmouth all enjoyed an evening playing bingo on Zoom. It was a fun time for these young families without spending a dime.
My friend Wes Brighton arrived in Menemsha over the weekend aboard his fishing vessel the Martha Rose with 500 pounds of sea scallops. He sold out in two hours. We enjoyed sea scallops for dinner on Tuesday evening. Thank you Wes.

This week we enjoyed the different artisanal breads from Grey Barn Farm. All were delicious. One would hardly need to leave up-Island with such gastronomic delights so close by.
