There have been gray days and rain around Aquinnah with a couple of sunny days and temperatures in the 50s. Visitors are enjoying the cliffs each day, and the parking lot at Philbin Beach was filled the other day.
An eggs-citing Easter egg hunt was created by Jamie Sue Vanderhoop and conducted across town with two dozen clues provided online. Virtually, each of the paper eggs were found by the families in their eggs-act location according to the clues. Of course, the children were eggs-austed running around looking for the eggs.
Martha’s Vineyard Community Services will postpone the electronic disposal day scheduled for May 16 to October 10. In the meantime, while doing your spring cleaning, please remember to pack up a few items for the Chicken Alley Thrift Shop for their re-opening in the future.
Martha’s Vineyard Museum has many wonderful programs that you may enjoy online while you are socially distancing. Time to renew your annual membership if you have not already done so.
Congratulations to the Martha’s Vineyard Vision Fellowship winners. Dashiell Christy, son of Todd and Jennifer, will study at University of Vermont for a degree in agro-ecology. Dash was my associate beach sticker clerk for three summers and it was a pleasure to work with him. Gregory Clark, son of Gregory Clark and Maureen Williams, will study for a degree in fisheries management and conservation with a minor in environmental sciences. Jada Lee Randolph, daughter of Richard and Jennifer, will study at Lesley University for a dual degree in history and secondary education. Thank you to Nancy Kohlberg and her daughters Pamela Kohlberg and Karen Kohlberg Davis for their support in providing these scholarships.
After spending weeks in the house, it was nice to spend a little time at the beach on Easter as we usually do with the Carroll, Biskis, Houghton and Athearn families. This year we had a tailgate gathering. I wore my mask and remained in the car.

While socially distancing, you sit and think of things to do that are suddenly of greater importance, organizing paper work, responding to long avoided correspondence, telephone calls to those who are alone, making weekly grocery lists, ordering certain items online while most shops are closed, etc. It definitely is a different way of life for all of us.
Have you completed your Census yet? It takes less than 10 minutes online and is of vital importance for funding of services in our communities.
Another great place to stop while up-Island is Mermaid Farm on Middle Road. We stopped in for our favorite lassi’s, their delicious rich yogurt, and one of the new cheeses.
Morning Glory Farm shared bouquets from their greenhouses with a free bouquet to brighten their day in this time of the Covid crisis. The flowers were on display at the State Road farm stand of Trip Barnes and free for the taking.
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Karen Belisle Child, a schoolmate from our days at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and a friend for more than half a century. Karen will be missed by many across the Vineyard, for her work at the West Tisbury School to her days at the Chicken Alley Thrift Shop. We will keep her husband Hal and their children Brandon and Bess in our thoughts and prayers, as well as her beloved grandchildren.
Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lee Fierro who passed away in Ohio. Our association with Lee began in her days in Westchester County in New York.
