There was another beautiful sunrise on Wednesday morning after a few days of a cold steady rain. Sunrise brings with it rays of hope as these days of isolation and uncertainty continue.

In the meantime, we are still enjoying sea scallops from Capt. Wesley Brighton aboard the F/V Martha Rose.

New adventures include painting parties on Zoom and a good game of Pictionary. Baking continues to be a favorite pastime.

Congratulations and all the best to Jade and Maya Araujo, twin daughters of Todd and Jaleen Araujo and granddaughters of Eleanor Hebert of Aquinnah and Joseph Araujo of Tisbury, and great granddaughters of Barbara Francis of Aquinnah. Jade and Maya have reached that magical age of 18 and will be headed to their freshman year of college. Jade will be heading to Stanford and Maya will be heading to UCLA. All the best to both.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Susan Rogers, R.N. who passed away at home on April 21. I have fond memories of Susan and her work as an emergency room nurse at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in the 1970s and the special bond we formed with her assistance in a family emergency.

The USCG Station Menemsha open house scheduled for May 2020 has been postponed due to the Covid-19 virus. As the crew continues to stand the watch, the USCG Menemsha Spouses Association continues to provide support, comfort and assistance to the young families stationed on the Vineyard during this time of uncertainty. The crew has had their work schedules reconfigurated to diminish the possibility of contagions. there are infrastfructure concerns with the aging buildings and other stressful moments.

Kaya Rutkowski will be 10 years old on May 4, sharing the day with Jonathan Zack. Cinco de Mayo is a day of celebration for Josh Brooks, Bill Smith and Karen Duffy. Tim Carroll shares the day with Alexandra Taylor on May 6. Caleb Caldwell parties on May 8.
