As we enjoy the final weekend of May, the temperature has been in the 60s, and along the byways of Aquinnah the shadbush and the beach plum bushes are in full bloom. Welcome signs as we continue life during this Covid-19 crisis.

The annual town meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 23 at 1 p.m. in front of the Aquinnah Fire Station. The annual town election will be on Wednesday, June 24 with the polls open from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Aquinnah town hall. The last day to register to vote or to change party enrollment for the annual town election is June 12. Early voting and absentee ballots are available for the annual town election. Beach passes and parking permits will be available at the Aquinnah town offices as of June 1.

The Aquinnah Cultural Center presents a virtual talk on June 6 at 6 p.m. with Dr. Elizabeth Hoover, associate professor of American Studies at Brown University. The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Task Force has added several virtual resources to their website, mvyouthtaskforce.org, to provide guidance and inspiration to parents and families in a Covid-19 world.

The Holy Ghost Association of Martha’s Vineyard was formed in 1920s by the descendants of Portuguese immigrants who dedicated their efforts to social, educational, and civic responsibilities. Congratulations to Noah Manning who was elected president of his ninth grade class at Falmouth Academy when school reconvenes. At present, Noah is the treasurer of his eighth grade class at Falmouth Academy. He made his campaign speech atop the cliffs, creating a video for virtual viewing by his classmates.
