The temperature reached the 70s in Aquinnah this week. At last! Friday is the final day to register to vote in Aquinnah for the spring session of voting season. The Aquinnah byways are being mowed but lets see if the Commonwealth mows along the State Road prior to the Fourth of July weekend.

The Aquinnah landfill drop-off will be open an additional day during the season, from June 13 through October 17. Natalie will assist you as always but please be sure you have the correct amount as there will not be an exchange of currency.

Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Class of 2020 enjoyed a parade along State Beach on Sunday. As you drive along the byways of the Vineyard you will notice Class of 2020 signs near each graduate’s home as well as flower pom poms. At Beetlebung corner there is a high-five sculpture in honor of Dash Christy, created by his grandfather, sculptor Jay Lagemann. The Aquinnah graduates include Riley Cameron, Gregory Clark and Ruby Suman.

During this Covid-19 crisis the Chicken Alley Thrift Shop has been closed for business and momentarily for donations. But you may now shop online at ChickenAlley.org and pick up your order curbside. Patrons will be allowed back into the thrift shop within the week. Donations may be made by calling 508-693-2278.

One of our tribal elders, Byram Devine, has been ill over the past several months and is unable to work. There is a GoFundMe site set up for him but if you prefer, donations may be sent directly to him: Byram Devine, Box 863, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.

The Portuguese-American Club has a GoFundMe site as well. They have been closed for the past three months. They are always there for everyone across the Vineyard — for birthdays, showers, retirement parties, weddings and funerals. They host the Chili contest for the Red Stocking Fund, along with dart games, cribbage each week, and scholarships for our high school graduates. A small tax deductible donation to the P.A. Club will go a long way.

Congratulations to the Martha’s Vineyard Bank for their support of so many charitable entities during the Covid-crisis. Their generosity has made a great difference in many lives on the Vineyard which has been evident across a few of the boards that yours truly serves on.
