The idea of limiting vehicular access to Edgartown Center is the best idea since the invention of gin! It would enliven the streets, allow diners more options, now and when we resume a new normal.

However, people must be given enhanced transportation options. The park and ride lot is usually full and some bus service, notably Route 8 which stops at 10:15, should be extended. Bike parking should be expanded also.

Restaurants will need proper notice so they can order new furniture for they cannot take existing tables and prop them up on the sidewalk with cardboard coasters. As for restaurants that are concerned with accommodating take-away orders, look forward, for previously that was the way to enjoy fast food. Every threat is an opportunity.
