Welcome summer! The official moment is tomorrow, Saturday at 5:44 p.m. So much has changed in the weeks behind us. Days are long and the warmth of the season has arrived.
At night, the sky doesn’t get dark until 10 p.m. Twilight seems to hold on well after sunset. Many of the constellations we associate with spring are now appearing in the western sky at night. The big zodiacal constellation Leo which guided us from winter into spring is now exiting in the west, followed by the zodiacal constellation Virgo.
Vega, one of the brightest stars of summer, is now high in the eastern sky at 10 p.m. The Big Dipper is overhead and an easy find.
The crescent moon shows up low in our western sky on Monday night. More will see the moon when it is higher Tuesday night. The moon is in the zodiacal constellation Gemini.
